DR SAWE ZIN

Dr. Zin has been performing male circumcisions in another clinic and decided to start here at Westgate Medical Centre Sayers Road from March 2024.

She is experienced in performing male circumcisions with minimal pain.

1. What is male circumcision?

Male circumcision is an operation to remove the foreskin that covers the tip of the penis. Some families choose circumcision for religious or cultural reasons while others choose to do it for hygiene, medical or appearance reasons.

The following is extracted from the better health channel for your information.

” Circumcision is mostly performed on babies for family, religious or cultural reasons. The Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ statement, Circumcision of infant males, was produced for doctors and to assist parents who are considering having this procedure undertaken on their male children. For more information, see the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand’s guidelines, Performing circumcision on infant males.”

2. What are the benefits of male circumcision?

a. It may reduce the risk of urinary tract infections in infant males.
b. Better hygiene
c. Even though cancer of penis is a very rare condition, much lower risk of cancer of penis in circumcised men and lower risk of cervical cancer in female partners of circumcised men.
d. Lower risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections including HIV.

3. What are the risks?

The most common risks associated with circumcisions are bleeding and infection. Sometimes the foreskin may be cut too much or too little. Those risks can be reduced in experienced hands.

4. How is it done?

After injecting local anaesthetics using extra-fine needles, the foreskin is separated and a plastic ring (either plastibell or shang ring) is placed and tied. Then excess skin is cut off. The plastic ring will fall off on its own. The following pictures are Plastibell and Shang Ring.
